GANESH CHATURTHI

GANESH CHATURTHI 2026 | SPECIAL BHOG RECIPES

Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 is a beautiful festival celebrated with devotion, happiness, and delicious food. The festival is dedicated to Lord Ganesha, who is worshipped as the remover of obstacles and the god of wisdom and good fortune. One of the most special parts of the celebration is preparing homemade prasad and offering it to Lord Ganesha.

Every family has its own favourite Ganesh Chaturthi dishes, but some recipes are especially popular during this festival.

Here are two simple recipes for your bhog menu this year:

Modak Recipe

Modak Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup rice flour
  • 1 cup water
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon ghee
  • 1 cup grated fresh coconut
  • ¾ cup jaggery
  • ½ teaspoon cardamom powder
  • A few chopped dry fruits, optional

How to Make Modak

  1.     Add grated coconut and jaggery in a pan. Cook them on low to medium heat. Keep stirring until the jaggery melts and the mixture becomes slightly thick. Add cardamom powder and dry fruits if you like. Switch off the flame and allow the filling to cool.
  1.     Boil one cup of water with a pinch of salt and one teaspoon of ghee. Lower the flame and slowly add rice flour. Mix continuously so that there are no lumps.
  2.     When the mixture is warm enough to handle, knead it gently into a soft dough.
  3.     Take a small portion of dough and flatten it with your fingers. Place a spoonful of coconut-jaggery filling in the centre. Bring the edges together and gently shape it like a modak.
  4.     Place the modaks in a steamer and steam for around 10–15 minutes. Once they become slightly shiny and firm, they are ready.

Puran Poli Recipe

Puran poli is another delicious choice for Ganesh Chaturthi recipes. It is a soft flatbread filled with sweetened dal and flavoured with cardamom.

Puran Poli

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chana dal
  • ¾ cup jaggery
  • ½ teaspoon cardamom powder
  • A pinch of nutmeg powder, optional
  • 2 cups wheat flour
  • Water as required
  • 1–2 teaspoons ghee
  • A pinch of salt

How to Make Puran Poli

  1.     Wash the chana dal and cook it until soft. Drain any extra water properly. The dal should be cooked but not watery.
  2.     Put the cooked dal and jaggery in a pan. Cook on low heat while stirring until the mixture becomes thick. Add cardamom and nutmeg powder. Let it cool and then mash it smoothly.
  3.     Mix wheat flour, salt, and a little ghee. Add water slowly and knead into a soft dough. Cover and rest it for about 15–20 minutes.
  4.     Take a small ball of dough and flatten it. Place some sweet dal filling inside and carefully seal it. Roll it gently into a round flatbread.
  5.     Heat a tawa and cook the puran poli on both sides. Apply a little ghee and cook until light golden spots appear.
