निर्विघ्नं कुरु मे देव सर्वकार्येषु सर्वदा॥
Do’s
– Choose the Right Direction: Install the idol facing north, east, or northeast. North is considered most auspicious as it’s related to Lord Shiva, Ganesha’s father. Avoid the south direction.
– Pay Attention to the Trunk: Select an idol with the trunk bent leftward for home installations, as it’s considered more auspicious and welcoming for prosperity.
– Choose the Right Place: Place the idol in a clean spot, NOT in bedrooms, bathrooms, under staircases, garages, or laundry rooms. The location should have positive, uncluttered energy.
– Keep Only One Idol: Traditionally, having only one Ganesh idol at home is auspicious. More than one may counter spiritual energy.
– Maintain Cleanliness: Always keep the area around the idol clean and clutter-free.
– Install During Shubh Muhurat: Preferably install during “Madhyahna” (midday) – the most auspicious time, as per tradition.
– Offerings: Place modaks, ladoos, fresh flowers, and fruits as offerings. Light lamps and incense daily, accompanied by mantras and aarti.
Don’ts
– Don’t Place Idol in Prohibited Spaces: Never keep Ganesha in bedrooms, washrooms, garages, or beneath staircases. Such places are considered inauspicious.
– Avoid Crowding: Don’t place idols too close to each other. Keep a minimum 1-inch gap if displaying other deities.
– Back Shouldn’t Face Home/Room: Do not let the back of the idol face into any living spaces. Best if the back faces a wall, never a room’s center.
